Susan Elizabeth “Libby” Cowan

Susan Elizabeth “Libby” Cowan, 92, of Slippery Rock, passed away Wednesday at her residence.

She was born in Rose Point, Lawrence County on Dec. 6, 1924, to Charles McFarland and Sarah (Wagner) McFarland.

During World War II, she worked for a pants factory making military uniforms.

Susan married Albert Joseph Cowan on April 30, 1943. She was a homemaker and a member of the Unity Baptist Church in Harlansburg. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, working with flowers, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Albert, at home; three sons, Albert (Shari) Cowan, of Camp Hill, Pa., Kenneth (Nancy) Cowan, of Huntington, Ind., Larry (Flora) Cowan, of Slippery Rock; two daughters, Cheryl Cowan Davis, of New Castle, and Pamela Cowan Downing, of West Middlesex, Pa.; 11 grandchildren, Michael, Terry, Joseph and Daniel Cowan, Gina D’Aurio and Ben D’Aurio, Katy Davis Runyon, Charles Cowan, Elizabeth Cowan, Rachel (Stoner) Mack and Heather Stoner; and 12 great-grandchildren.

COWAN — The family of Susan Elizabeth “Libby” Cowan who died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m., Monday, at Unity Baptist Church, in Harlansburg, 304 Old Route 19, New Castle. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. with Pastor Zach Dudenhofer presiding.

Interment will be in Unity Baptist Church Cemetery.

Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
