Jean Downing

Jean Anna (Wise) Downing, of Slippery Rock, formerly of Pittsburgh, passed away on Aug. 11, 2021, at the age of 93.

She was the devoted wife of Patrick Joseph Downing, and the loving mother of Diane (Duryea) and Patricia (Pepper), who was her caregiver in recent years.

Jean's first focus was her family, especially her seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She was a soul who never met a true stranger, and had a way of putting everyone she met at ease. She was a confidante and source of support for her family. She had a constant sparkle in her eye and rarely could say “no,” particularly to her grandchildren. Her greatest joy was spending time with them and her great-grandchildren.

Jean will be greatly missed by her family. However, they are comforted in knowing that she will be joining her husband, Joe, and daughter, Diane in Heaven, as well as her parents and siblings, who preceded her in death.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Joseph Downing; her daughter, Diane Jean Duryea; her parents, John and Helen Wise; and her siblings, John Wise, Helen Fogle, Robert Wise and Donald Wise; as well as three siblings, who passed away in infancy.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Patricia Pepper; her sister, Shirley Feitl; her son-in-law, David J. Duryea; her grandchildren, Megan (husband Andy), Erin (husband Tim), Amanda (husband Phil), Jeana (husband Matt), Michael, Brian (wife Carrie), and Sara (husband Mark); and her 21 beloved great-grandchildren (with number 22 on the way), Brooklyn, Gavin, Landon, Adelynn, Noah, Jonah, Elijah, Micah, Isaiah, Susan, Colleen, Anne, Madeline, Jack, Sam, Elizabeth, Caleb, Xavier, Rebecca, Rachel and Claire.

DOWNING — A private memorial service Jean Anna (Wise) Downing, who died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021, will be held at a future date for the immediate family.
