BRUIN — A good Samaritan is credited with helping a man found unresponsive in a car at the Bruin post office.

State police charged the rescued man, Christopher J. Smith, 40, of Bruin, last week with driving on drugs in connection with the Feb. 22 incident.

Police said they got the call around 1 p.m. for an unresponsive man in a vehicle at the post office parking lot on Washington Street.

A witness later told investigators that he noticed several people pounding on a car belonging to Smith, who was apparently unconscious and slumped over in the driver's seat, according to charging documents.

The man, who police did not identify, got into the car and performed two “sternum rubs” on Smith.
