CRANBERRY TWP — The township has been named a Banner Community for the seventh year in a row.

The honor is determined by Allegheny County and the Allegheny League of Municipalities.

The banner program, started in 2012, is designed to recognize municipalities that are committed to professional development, prudent fiscal management, transparency, accountability and proactive communications, according to the award announcement from the office of Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.

Cranberry Township is one of 16 communities that have been recognized each year since the program’s inception. It was the only community outside Allegheny County to be named a Banner Community until 2017, when Butler Township was also recognized.

This year, 65 municipalities and four municipal authorities were designated Banner Communities. Nine of the municipalities earned that status for the first time this year.
