James N. Wood

James N. Wood, 92, of Butler passed away Saturday at the Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born Jan. 28, 1926, in Temple, Pa. His parents were the late H. Nelson Wood Jr. and the late Malinda McRoberts Wood.

He served in World War II in the U.S. Army in Europe. James worked as a teacher and a football coach. He later worked for Indspec.

James loved the outdoors, gardening and especially his family. He had an affinity for all things Pittsburgh where he grew up.

James is survived by his wife, Iris, whom he married June 16, 1951; one son, David N. (Kathy) Wood of Elizabeth Township; one daughter, Judith L. Starr of Dryden, N.Y.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four nieces; and nine nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Stephen A. Starr.

WOOD — Friends of James N. Wood, who died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.A funeral service will be immediately after visitation at noon Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Barbara Stoehr of First United Methodist officiating.
