Crashes follow NYE snowfall
Three motor vehicle accidents that resulted with two adults and a child taken to the hospital occurred New Year's Eve while the county experienced a snowfall.
At least one person was injured in a two-vehicle accident just before 2:55 p.m. Tuesday in Forward Township.
Both vehicles involved in the accident in the area of 1620 Evans City Road appeared to be heavily damaged and at least one person was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital.
Traffic was restricted to one lane for nearly two hours as emergency crews cleared the scene.
The Evans City Volunteer Fire Department, Harmony Fire District, Harmony EMS and state police responded.
Mom hurt in Parker
A mother and child were taken to the hospital Tuesday evening after a one-vehicle accident at 7:02 p.m. on West Eldorado Road in Parker Township.
Bruin firefighters said the mother, who was driving the SUV, suffered minor injuries including lacerations, but the child was not hurt in the crash. The mother, accompanied by the child, was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
The crash occurred on West Eldorado Road near its intersection with Annisville Road.
A resident at a nearby house helped move the vehicle off the road while authorities responded to the scene.
“The resident got her off the road because she was going to get hit again,” said David Blair, Bruin Volunteer Fire Department assistant chief.
Power was knocked out to several hundred residents following a separate accident in Summit Township on slushy roads Tuesday afternoon.At 3:10 p.m., a car driven by a woman traveling north on Saxonburg Road in Summit Township hit and sheared a utility pole and came to rest in a field with live power lines around the car and along the road.The driver suffered minor injuries, but the accident knocked out power to about 750 West Penn Power customers. Most of the outages were in Jefferson Township, with 433 of the affected customers there.Another 125 were in Summit Township, 103 in Penn Township, 83 in Butler Township and six in Butler, said Todd Meyers, West Penn spokesman.The woman had to wait in the car until a West Penn Power crew shut off the power in the lines.Firefighters from the Herman Volunteer Fire Department and medics from East Butler Ambulance Service also had to wait for the power to be shut off before they could reach the car. State police also responded to the accident.
