Man sentenced for role in suspected Ohio drug 'crew'
A Butler man was sentenced Thursday to prison for his role in a suspected drug crew from Youngstown, Ohio.
David William Robertson Jr., 39, of Butler was sentenced to 2 to 5 years in state prison for possession with intent to deliver. As part of his plea deal, other charges were dropped, including a conspiracy charge. He received 280 days of credit for time already served.
In July 2019, Robertson was among nine people arrested during two drug raids executed within 30 minutes of each other at two Butler apartments. According to police, Robertson lived in one of the apartments, on East Locust Street, that was raided. The other apartment was on West North Street.
During the dual raids, police seized about $7,000, according to investigators, in addition to more than 11 grams of suspected crack, at least 3 grams of heroin, drug-packaging materials and other contraband and cell phones.
The network of suspected dealers — known as the “Youngstown Crew” — had been on police's radar for some time, according to investigators.
According to police, crew members would typically set up shop at a drug user's home to deal narcotics. They claimed that was the case with Robertson's apartment.
Surveillance teams during the investigation documented drug activity at both targeted apartments. That information, along with the prior alleged drug buys, would lead authorities to apply for search warrants.
At the East Locust Street apartment, the officer testified, police found Robertson inside, along with the suspected crack and other drugs.
