Driver sent to hospital after hitting pole in Butler

BUTLER — A silver Nissan SUV struck a pole on Thursday morning while traveling up Morton Avenue at the intersection of Fairview Avenue.

The accident was called in on emergency dispatch radio about 10:00 a.m.

The driver was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital by Butler Ambulance Service with minor injuries.

Butler police, who closed Morton Avenue, would not comment on the one-car accident.

Todd Meyers, West Penn Power spokesman, said about five customers near the scene were without power for a little more than 30 minutes after the 10:30 a.m. accident.

He said crews were called in to replace the pole, which was broken in the accident.

Morton Avenue was closed while crews worked to replace the pole and install any wires or transformers that were on the broken pole.

Meyers expected the work to be complete by late afternoon.
