Butler City Council will vote at Thursday's regular meeting to advertise for bids to borrow $200,000 to buy vehicles for several departments.

The two-year loan would be used to buy vehicles for the city’s police, zoning and code and street departments.

The plan originally included buying a tractor for the parks department, but council members said at Tuesday’s forum meeting that the tractor had been removed from the list.

The city budget includes money to buy two cars for the police department, Councilman Michael Walter said during a discussion on revisions to the spending plan.

He said Ford Taurus police interceptor cars cost about $23,000 and equipping the cars for police service costs an additional $6,000.

The police department has experienced breakdowns with some of its older vehicles.
