Police use stretcher to cart man off to DJ's office
CRANBERRY TWP — A township man was taken away on a stretcher Wednesday after police showed up at his home on Bellwood Court with multiple arrest warrants.
But John Czake, 62, wasn’t injured during the altercation — he was just uncooperative, police said.
Township police and Pennsylvania state constables went to Czake’s home about 11 a.m. to serve four warrants for his arrest on charges relating to bad checks, disorderly conduct and harassment.
Police said Czake has a history of being uncooperative with police and that he has made “numerous threats to shoot at police if they come to his home,” according to court documents.
Police were met by Czake’s brother while the defendant refused to go outside, instead yelling down at officers from a second-story window.
Czake was finally persuaded to go outside where he was told by police that he was going to be taken to the district judge’s office.
Czake immediately refused to cooperate, police said. He allegedly laid on the ground and began crawling on his hands and knees toward his front steps, yelling that he was going to hit his head on the pavement and sue to police officers at the scene.
When the constables tried to handcuff Czake, he actively swung his arms so they could not grab them and kicked at officers, police said. He also spit on two of the officers, and said if he got to his house he “might just get (his) gun,” according to documents.
Police said they were unable to lift the 380-pound Czake off the ground and had to call an ambulance crew to assist them.
He was taken away on a stretcher in an ambulance to District Judge David Kovach’s office, where he was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and terroristic threats.
He is in Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.
