The 58-year-old Cranberry Township man who was riding on this motorcycle seriously injured his head and arm in a crash Monday, according to police.

BUTLER TWP — A motorcycle rider was hospitalized with serious injuries after striking the side of a pickup that had been traveling east and making a left turn onto the Route 356 spur around 5 p.m. Monday.

Police said a 58-year-old Cranberry Township man riding the motorcycle was conscious upon arrival of first responders, and the man had serious injuries to his head and arm.

Police said the motorcycle was heading west along Evans City Road when it struck the rear-passenger side of a pickup. The motorcycle sustained heavy front-end damage and was on its side in the middle of Evans City Road about 50 yards west of the road's intersection with New Castle Road.

Butler Township and city firefighters responded to assist on scene, and Butler Ambulance transported the rider to a landing zone near the Butler schools.

According to police, the rider was not wearing a helmet, was flown by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital.

The truck, which was parked in the spur after the crash, had large dents around the rear-passenger wheelwell.

Police said no one in the truck showed signs of injury.
