Anthony Cousins

A Prospect man, charged with causing a crash while driving intoxicated and injuring another person, was sentenced to state prison in Butler County Court on Thursday.

Anthony Cousins, 25, was sentenced to 12 to 36 months in a state correctional facility, followed by 36 months of probation, $2,500 in fines and 100 hours of community service by Judge Timothy McCune, after previously pleading guilty on July 18 to felony aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence and misdemeanor DUI controlled substance.

Penn Township Police charged him April 26, following a head-on crash that left a man hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police said they suspect Cousins was high on cocaine and opiates about 1 p.m. when his sport utility vehicle slammed into an oncoming Jeep on Route 8.

The other driver, 60-year-old Kenneth Fry of Butler, suffered serious injury as a result of the crash.

McCune also ran the sentence consecutive to Cousins' first DUI case, where he was sentenced to 72 hours to six months in county prison in June, following a drugged driving arrest on Dec. 6 on Route 356 in Jefferson Township.

In that incident, troopers said they found five empty stamp bags of suspected heroin, three hypodermic needles and a drug-cooking spoon in Cousins' SUV.
