Today's the day: Buy a sandwich, help Meals on Wheels
They won't just be making sandwiches at The Hoagie Shop today. Hoagies sold until 9 p.m. Friday will generate donations to help feed Butler Meals on Wheels clients.
On Wednesday, The Hoagie Shop at the Bon Aire and Point Plaza shopping centers donated 178 free hoagies to Meals on Wheels after the group was temporarily shut down because a burst water pipe damaged its headquarters.
In response, the Butler Eagle's publisher, Ron Vodenichar, planned to donate to Meals on Wheels. Vodenichar's wife, Linda, came up with the idea for the couple to donate $1 per hoagie sold Friday at The Hoagie Shop's two locations, up to $250. The Butler Eagle also will participate in the one-day fundraiser, which could earn Meals on Wheels a total of $500.
In addition to that effort, friends and business associates of the Vodenichars have donated $4,350 for Meals on Wheels, Vodenichar said.
