Ann D. Krankota

Ann D. Krankota, 94, of Butler passed away Tuesday.

She was born in Butler on Aug. 2, 1916, a daughter of the late Vincent and Antonia Nanni DeMatteis.

She was a graduate of Butler High School, Class of 1934, and was employed as a bookkeeper at Pittsburgh Home Savings and Loan for more than 20 years, retiring in 1980. Ann also was formerly employed at Butler Armco. She also was an aide at the Butler Montessori School with Sister Mary Giuseppi, where she was affectionately known as "Mrs. K."

Ann was a very humble and generous person, and she enjoyed doing things for others. Her family, and especially her grandchildren, were her priority. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed playing the organ and piano by ear.

Ann was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, where she was Father Vincent Marinaro's first secretary. She also was a member of the Armco Women's Club.

Surviving are two daughters, Maria Stephenson and her fiancé, David Keasey, of Butler and Patricia Veisz and her husband, Kenneth, of Boardman, Ohio; one son, Richard Krankota and his wife, Tressa, of Conneaut; five sisters, Violet DeMatteis of Butler, Mrs. Sylvia Wigton of Butler, Angela DeMatteis of Butler, Mrs. Joan Jannetti and her husband, Harry, of New Castle, and Mrs. Eleanor Lasky of Butler; six grandchildren, Clark Stephenson of Pittsburgh, Loren Rae Stephenson of Butler, Kamiren Veisz of Boardman, Ohio, Christine Krankota of Conneaut, Rebecca Krankota of Conneaut and Michael Krankota of Conneaut.She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Krankota; three sisters, Clara DeMatteis, Anita Denny and Elisa Thomas; and two brothers, Michael Angelo DeMatteis and Domenic DeMatteis.

<B>KRANKOTA </B>— Friends of Ann D. Krankota, who died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday from St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Father James Dolan officiating. Entombment will be in the St. Michael Cemetery Mausoleum.The Bereavement Group of St. Michael the Archangel Church will meet at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home to conduct a scriptural wake service.The family requests memorial donations be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.Information also is available at www.martinfh.net.
