CRANBERRY TWP — Three new officers joined the township police department Tuesday night.

At its meeting, the township supervisors approved the hiring of Jason Giallorenzo, Tiffani Shaffer and Robin Winters at an hourly rate of $28.73.

Chairman of the supervisors Dick Hadley introduced the new hires and administered the oath.

Winters is a Knoch High School graduate who earned a bachelor’s degree from Edinboro University and graduated from the Pittsburgh police academy. She previously was an officer in Pittsburgh.

Shaffer, also a Knoch High School graduate, graduated from Community College of Allegheny County and the Indiana (Pa.) University police academy. She previously was a sheriff’s deputy in Butler County.

Giallorenzo, originally from Ellwood City, earned a degree from Pittsburgh Technical Institute and also attended the IUP police academy. He has worked as an officer for the Adams Township and New Sewickley Township, Beaver County, police departments.

Police Chief Kevin Meyer said the new hires brings the department up to 27 full-time uniformed officers. They plan to hire three more officers this year, increasing the department to 30.

The increased call volume in the township has made additional staffing necessary, he said. In terms of staff, Cranberry continues to have the biggest municipal police department in the county.
