Domestic dispute call ends in assault of officer charge

DONEGAL TWP — A township man remains behind bars on $100,000 bond while awaiting his hearing next week on charges he struck a trooper with a wooden porch gate.

David M. Jack, 27, is facing a top charge of felony assault in the incident, which occurred Nov. 8 at his home on Irwin Road in Donegal Township, where police responded to a domestic dispute.

Police said they were called around 6:45 a.m. and spoke to the defendant's 24-year-old girlfriend, who told them the defendant had forcibly grabbed her during the altercation.

When troopers advised Jack that they planned to charge him by summons with harassment, police said, he became angry. The officers subsequently left the house.

But the defendant, while shouting profanities, according to charging documents, ran toward Trooper Joshua Osche. He allegedly grabbed a wooden gate and slammed it against the back of Osche's legs.

Jack is also accused of kicking and flailing as the trooper attempted to place him in handcuffs.

Osche was later treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for minor injuries and released.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Jack on charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and harassment. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $100,000 bond.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday at Stoughton's office in Chicora. Online court records did not list an attorney for him.
