Messer denied 1,000th
CARY, N.C.— Slippery Rock University baseball coach Jeff Messer was denied his 1,000th career win Tuesday as SRU dropped a 9-7 decision to Saint Thomas Aquinas at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for The Rock (5-4).
Frankie Jezioro had two hits and two RBI for SRU while Luke Trueman and Jon Kozarian added two hits each. Joe Campagna extended his hitting streak to nine games.
Moniteau graduate Derek Boben pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief, striking out four.
SRU returns to action at 11 a.m. Wednesday, taking on Dominican at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

CLERMONT, Fla. — Camie Shumaker was the winning pitcher in both games as the Slippery Rock University women’s softball team claimed two victories Monday.
Shumaker tossed a shutout in a 2-0 win over Concord. She then pitched eight innings to get the win in a 2-1 extra-inning triumph over Caldwell.
Alexa Guglielmino delivered a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to end the second game.
SRU (3-8) returns to action Wednesday, playing Millersville and Urbana.
