Driver identified, police end pursuit
Butler police said they identified the driver of a vehicle that fled from an officer who tried to initiate a stop for a traffic violation Wednesday afternoon and were planning to seek a felony arrest warrant for him.
Police Chief Bob O’Neill said the vehicle, which also had a passenger, fled when an officer tried to pull it over around 2 p.m.
The suspect vehicle traveled through town and was heading north on North Main Street toward the Clearview Mall when the officer terminated the pursuit. “We terminated the chase due to the erratic driving of the driver,” O’Neill said.
The officer managed to identify the driver and the passenger.
“The officer was familiar with both occupants from previous encounters,” O’Neill said.
He said the officer would seek an arrest warrant for the driver on felony charges for fleeing from police and file traffic citations against him.
Butler Township police responded to the chase, but the city officer called off the chase before township police arrived, he said.
