Jazz pianist Erroll Garner will be the subject of a lecture by Glenn Utsch, professor of piano at Slippery Rock University, at an Opus I Music Society event at 10 a.m. Monday at LifePointe Alliance Church, Route 228, Adams Township. Refreshments begin at 9:30 a.m. The program will include demonstrations and video.
Soprano and Slippery Rock University professor of music Colleen Gray is to perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Haven I Dining Room at Concordia Haven, 112 Marwood Road, Jefferson Township. Butler-based country folk band Appalachian Doom Gospel will give a benefit show for area resident Dana Hare, who was recently diagnosed with stage four colon, liver, and lung cancer. The show on April 27 will also feature performances by Good Ole Ernie, Bonnie and The Mere Mortals, and Tom Pappas. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the music will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Butler Art Center, 344 S. Main St. Admission is $10, and all proceeds will benefit Hare and her family.
Debbie Horton’s Branson on the Road show is planned for April 13 at the Tanglewood Center, 10 Austin Ave., Lyndora. Doors open at 6 p.m. followed by a dinner buffet at 7 p.m. and music at 8 p.m. The show features costumes, comedy and classic country, bluegrass, rockabilly and gospel music. In addition to Horton, performers include Adam Pope, Preston Walden and Lisa Horngren. Horton holds the distinction of being the only woman to have played lead guitar for Johnny Cash. Piano Maniacs will perform a dueling piano fundraising event on April 13 at the American Legion in Lyndora for Connecting2Tomorrow. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and food will be available. Because the evening is BYOB, only those 21 and older will be admitted. Tickets are $20 and are available at www.c2tpianoevent.eventbrite.com. Proceeds benefit C2T’s free teen-mentoring program.
Butler County Symphony Orchestra’s 70th anniversary season will conclude with the concert “Fire & Water” at 3 p.m. April 14 at Butler Intermediate High School auditorium. Performing with the orchestra will be baritone Timothy LeFebvre and the orchestra’s Collegiate Concerto Competition winner, vocalist Elary Mede.
