2nd man accused of stealing electronics
CRANBERRY TWP — A second man who police said helped steal more than $1,000 in electronics from two different stores in the township has been charged.
Jeffrey Leon Norris Jr., 45, of Ellwood City faces two counts each of retail theft, a third-degree felony, and receiving stolen property, a first-degree misdemeanor, plus an additional misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of theft instruments.
Township police said Norris entered Best Buy around 8 p.m. Sunday and stole a PlayStation 4 and a Lenovo computer by hiding the gaming system in an old store bag and concealing the computer on his person.
Then, police said, Norris and James K. Miller drove to Walmart, where Miller allegedly cut anti-theft spider wrap from an HP Pavilion desktop computer and exited the store with it.
While Miller was taking the computer, according to police, Norris placed two televisions in a shopping cart, but left the items in the store.
Police, who were alerted by Best Buy employees, arrested Miller in the Walmart parking lot. “Norris Jr. fled the area before he was able to be apprehended,” according to an affidavit by Officer Edward Steinmetz.
Norris is not in the Butler County Prison, court records indicate. His preliminary hearing before District Judge David Kovach is scheduled Jan. 24.
Miller waived his charges to court Friday in Kovach's courtroom and was released from Butler County Prison.
