Police charge woman, 29, with DUI, endangerment
A Saxonburg woman will appear in court following an investigation into a crash that injured her and two children.
Marriah P. Monteleone, 29, was charged May 19 by state police with a first-offense, controlled substance DUI and two counts of child endangerment, stemming from a Nov. 18 crash on Saxonburg Boulevard in Clinton Township.
Since none of the charges include a felony, an arrest warrant was not issued, but Monteleone is expected to appear for a preliminary hearing June 23 before District Judge Sue Haggerty.
According to charging documents, police arrived at the scene of a two-vehicle accident, finding a Mazda 3 sedan and Chevrolet Colorado pickup, both with heavy front-end damage.
“No tire marks, skid marks or any signs of braking were present on the roadway,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit.
Police said Monteleone told them she didn't know what caused the crash, but she knew it had happened in the northbound lane, even though she had been traveling south.
“(The other driver) was traveling north on Saxonburg Boulevard, and (Monteleone's vehicle) crossed over the double yellow lines and hit him head-on,” police said.
Police said Monteleone was taken by ambulance to a hospital for injuries in the crash, and her 1-year-old passenger was taken by medical helicopter to UPMC Children's for evaluation.
Police said a 7-year-old also was in Monteleone's car, but was not injured.
In a previous report, it was noted that the 1-year-old was secured in a child safety seat, and the 7-year-old had been in a booster seat. The relationship of the children to Monteleone was not specified in court documents.
The other driver was taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with unknown injuries.
Police said after Monteleone's departure from the scene, they looked for her insurance information and found prescriptions. Police said they briefly interviewed Monteleone, and she admitted to having two daily medications, but a third one was found inside the vehicle.
Police said they also interviewed a witness to the crash, who was driving behind Monteleone.
“(The witness) advised that (Monteleone's vehicle) hit the double yellow solid lines and the white fog line two times each (before the crash),” police said.
Police said after an investigation at the scene, they requested a warrant for blood tests completed at the hospital, which concluded that shortly after the crash, Monteleone had fentanyl, buprenorphine, gabapentine, xylazine and benzodiazepine in her system.
