Office building fire quickly extinguished
SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — A faulty light apparently ignited a small fire Friday morning at an office building on Arrowhead Drive in the township, authorities said.
The fire started about 7 a.m. and was quickly extinguished. No one was injured.
Firefighters from five departments in two counties responded after a call to 911 reported smoke and flames coming from the building at Arrowhead Pointe.
Fire crews got there and found the blaze on the side of the building that is vacant, said Capt. Kurt Reasner of the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company. The opposite side of the building houses Wise Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine.
No one was in the building at the time of the fire.
“It appears an exterior light for the parking lot shorted out and then caught the vent on fire,” Reasner said. “It's really the only explanation.”
The Slippery Rock VFC's tower truck was deployed to get a crew up to the vent. The fire was out in a matter of minutes.
“We just sprayed some water on it and started pulling out all the burnt pieces (of the vent),” Reasner said. “We then used our thermal-imaging camera to look inside to make there was no fire extension.”
There was minimal damage to the vacant side of the building. Officials estimated damage at $200. Wise Physical Therapy was not damaged.
Assisting the Slippery Rock VFC were firefighters from Harrisville and Unionville in Butler County and Pine Township and Grove City in Mercer County.
