National Weather Service placed Butler County under a tornado watch until 3 p.m. today.

The National Weather service reports severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 11 miles southwest of Sugarcreek to near Meridian to McCandless Township, moving northeast at 45 mph. Winds as high as 70 mph could occur. Trees have been snapped and uprooted, and power outages are expected.

The National Weather Service announced the hazardous weather on their website.

The statement said that large hail and an isolated tornado is possible in addition to the strong showers and thunderstorms predicted for the region.
