Freeport High School students place high in contests
Freeport High School students excelled in three recent academic competitions.
The high school’s Brain Drain team won the overall Senior High category at a Blairsville High School competition April 17.
Team members are Ryan David, Kevin Keppel, Mike Matjasko, Stephen Posney, Eric Snyder, Ryan Sweeny and Zach Will.
The high school’s television production students won four awards of excellence April 13 at the 17th Annual TVT Student Video Festival at Robert Morris University. They competed against 26 schools.
Winners were Derek Durrand and Hayle Mowatt, who won for their news package on the FHS blood drive; Jamie Fergus and Mike Helman, who won for a live music special; Max Mazurowski, Jamie Fergus and Melissa Cooper, who won for the “Imaginative” category; and Rachel Grubbs and TV one, period three, who won for an anti-bullying public service announcement.

The high school’s math team placed third in the StrongLand Interscholastic Mathematics competition at Penn State New Kensington.
