Republicans in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives received a formal complaint Tuesday calling for the removal of Rep. Brian Ellis, R-11th, from office, according to news reports. Lawyers representing the Butler Township lawmaker contacted the Eagle Tuesday night to call the complaint “just plain false.”

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Tuesday evening that a woman accusing Ellis of sexually assaulting her in Harrisburg in 2015 filed a complaint with House leadership.

A written statement provided by the Harrisburg law firm Myers, Brier and Kelly on Ellis’ behalf Tuesday night countered the complaint.

“This anonymous complaint was prepared by the accuser’s hired agents — and then instantly given to numerous media outlets — for one cynical reason: to generate sensational press coverage,” the firm wrote. “The accuser’s latest self-serving repackaging of the 2015 allegations are just plain false.”

Previous news reports in late January detailed a Dauphin County investigation into Ellis for the same alleged incident. House Republican leadership responded at the time by calling for the representative’s resignation.

Ellis has taken leave for each legislative session since and has been unreachable by media organizations.

The statement Tuesday night was the first made by any representative of Ellis responding to the allegations.

According to the Inquirer, House Republican leadership offered no comment in response to the complaint Tuesday night.

The Philadelphia newspaper released details of Tuesday’s complaint. In it the woman described waking up naked in Ellis’ bed and feeling that she had perhaps “sustained a serious injury to my head, given my state of disorientation.” About 10 hours prior, she had been at a bar with a friend and had less than two drinks.

The woman wrote that Ellis had previously expressed sexual interest in her, which she rejected, according to the Inquirer report. Ellis told her she “always knew we would” have sex, according to the report’s description of the complaint.
