Man allegedly admits possessing child porn

Jay W. Flagg

A Butler man admitted to having more than 100 images of child porn saved on a flash drive found under his mattress, according to authorities.

Butler City Police on Friday filed one felony charge of child pornography against Jay W. Flagg, 64, of Butler.

Flagg is listed on the Megan's Law website as a Tier 2 offender for sexual offense convictions in 2017, one of which was for child pornography.

Following his arraignment Friday by District Judge William O'Donnell, Flagg was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bond.

According to charging documents, a state parole agent had been conducting a home check when they noticed a black flash drive stick under Flagg's mattress. The agent then called detectives from the city police to begin an investigation.

Detectives said Flagg had admitted to the parole agent that there was child pornography on the USB drive, and when they brought him to the police station, he spoke with detectives in a recorded interview after acknowledging his Miranda rights.

“Flagg admitted to possessing over 100 child pornography photographs on the described USB stick,” detectives said.

A preliminary hearing for Flagg has been scheduled for Monday before District Judge William Fullerton.
