Students place at Academic Games

SLIPPERY ROCK — Students at Slippery Rock Elementary School found success at the most recent Academic Games competition.

On Dec. 13, the team of Ryan Dutton, Patrick Busa, James Yates, Jackie Appel and Clayton Cupec placed fourth at the LinguiSHTIKs competition for the Academic Games held at Slippery Rock University. Dutton went undefeated for the day.

These students all now qualify for Tri-Bowl, the state competition, at Geneva College to be held on March 6 and 7.

On Dec. 14, the elementary division students competed and had four teams qualify as well as four students go undefeated.

In the third and fourth grade division, the team of Sierra Denholm, Alayna Denholm, Jonathan Thompson, Greg Pritts and Traven Stewart placed fourth. Sierra Denholm went undefeated for the day.

The fifth and sixth grade division had three teams qualify.

The team of Emily Fritz, Malia Kennedy, Adeline Birkes, Arsha Mamoozadeh and Claudia Allen placed eighth.

The team of Vance Fowler, Maddie Roxberry, Cabot Fowler, Connor Bluedorn and Oliver Valera placed sixth.

The team of Sarah Wheeler, Eva Beeching, Emily Appel, Cole Bell and Gage LaChance placed fourth. Beeching, Emily Appel and LaChance were undefeated for the day.

In addition to all of these students qualifying for Tri-Bowl, the following students also have qualified for the national tournament at Oglebay: Wheeler, Bell, Emily Appel, LaChance, Beeching, Birkes, Bluedorn, Sierra Denholm, Fowler and Thompson.
