1-car crash injures 3 occupants

Two people were life-flighted to area hospitals and one person was taken to Grove City Medical Center by ambulance after a one-car crash Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Oneida Valley Road and Young Lane.

CHERRY VALLEY — In the 51 years Earl Young has lived at his home on Route 38 in the borough, he has counted 18 vehicle crashes.

Young added another crash to the count Saturday afternoon when he witnessed a one-vehicle wreck.

Two people were life-flighted to area hospitals and one person was taken to Grove City Medical Center by ambulance after a one-car crash Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Oneida Valley Road and Young Lane.

At the scene were the state police and first responders from Eau Claire, Emlenton, Marion Township and Karns City. A police report was unavailable.

Young waited for vehicles to pass traveling on Route 38 so he could cross the stretch of road to reach his mailbox.

Suddenly, Young saw a car spin out of control and take out a utility pole.

Young moved to act. He stopped traffic and had a person call 911.

He and several others helped get the car up because a person's arm was pinned beneath it, Young said.

Next, they moved two people in the wreck to safety and waited for first responders to help the person who was trapped in the vehicle, he said.

The accident is the second this year and both have damaged the same utility pole, he said.

The damaged line restricted northbound traffic until utility crews could make repairs.

Young cautioned drivers in the area.

“Slow down on turns,” he said.
