Scoop proven perfect

Maybe I do have a shot at 100 wins.

After an 11-0 record in Week 1 (or is it Week 2? Week 1.5? Who knows anymore) I am off to an 18-3 start.

That may be my best start, well, ever to a season for the ol’ Scoopster.

Last year, I got off to a dreadful beginning, so I’ll take it.

Let’s see if I can keep the Scoop Train rolling.

On to the picks:

Mt. Lebanon 40, Butler 10 — The Golden Tornado are going back to basics this week after disastrous starts in the first two games of the season.

This is another bad matchup for Butler, which just needs something to go its way.

I think the Golden Tornado will begin to show signs of improvement this week, but Lebo is just too strong.

Seneca Valley 28, Canon-McMillan 12 — The Raiders have opened some eyes already this season.

Even without Gabe Lawson, Seneca Valley gave Central Catholic all it could handle last week with Caden Smithco at quarterback.

Whether the Raiders have Lawson or Smithco at the position this week, they should win handily.

Beaver 27, Knoch 15 — The Knights are another team that just needs a break.

Knoch has shown glimmers in the first two weeks with Chase Mullen running the option offense at quarterback and Matt Goodlin at running back.

This, though, is another tough opponent for the Knights.

Mars 26, Greensburg Salem 8 — How do you spell Planets’ success this season?

D-E-F-E-N-S-E.

Mars has one of the best.

The Planets will show off their stifling D again this week.

North Catholic 32, Freeport 13 — It doesn’t get any easier for the Yellowjackets this week after losing a tough overtime clash with Derry last week in their opener.

The Trojans have torn through their two opponents this season, out-scoring them 90-19.

Freeport is always gutsy and that will keep this one close for a while.

Clarion 30, Karns City 24 — The Gremlins got on a roll last week against Punxsy after an uneven performance in Week Zero.

Clarion got pushed a round a bit in the second half against Moniteau after building a 28-0 halftime lead.

In what could be one of the best games of Friday night, the Bobcats win in a squeaker.

Moniteau 20, Ridgway 19 — The Warriors acquitted themselves quite well after turnovers and penalties torpedoed them in the first half against Clarion.

Moniteau is a very physical team and that may be the difference in this one.

Curwensville 28, Union/A-C Valley 9 — The Falcon Knights got a big win last week. Curwensville will be a good litmus test.

Slippery Rock 39, Franklin 9 — Vito Pilosi has played well at QB for the Rockets, whose defense has been top notch.

Franklin is coming off a 73-7 loss to Oil City in a game where it lost 38 yards rushing and gave up 624.

Washington 43, Summit Academy 12 — The Knights are still looking for their first points of the season.

And they get to play Washington. Yikes.

Scoop is looking for another perfect week.
