CRANBERRY TWP — A plan for a new apartment complex received recommendation from the township planning advisory commission Monday evening.

Six apartment buildings containing 276 apartments are planned for about 14 acres on Brandt Drive.

“We’re excited for the next step,” said Jim Feath, senior landscape architect for Herbert, Rowland and Grubic. “It’s becoming a reality.”

Feath said the area is “dynamic” and “exciting.” He also said construction could start as soon as late this year if all goes according to schedule.

Costs were not disclosed as was the name of the apartment complex.

“We’re still evolving,” Feath said. “But we’re hoping for the best.”

Amenities include a clubhouse, a pool, green space, a bike lane, a sidewalk and a walking trail. Trees also will be planted along Brandt Drive.

About 414 parking spaces are planned to be installed, Feath said. Parking will be underneath the apartment buildings on the ground level.

A “mini-roundabout” also is planned to be built on Brandt Drive near Executive Drive.

The roundabout’s center island will be about 70 feet across. The roundabout itself will be a three-way intersection.

Township traffic engineer Kelly Mauer said advantages of the “mini-roundabout” include less congestion and less chance of crashes.

“For now, I think we’ve really got it to fit geometrically to make sure it doesn’t negatively impact any other properties,” Mauer said.

The roundabout’s island will be flat so that larger vehicles needing more room can traverse it.

“We knew that had to be accommodated,” Mauer said.

A public hearing for the project will be held Feb. 24.
