Police have identified the person killed in a shooting Thursday morning on Wick Street as a 20-year-old man from Philadelphia.

Rashaan Khalil Adams was fatally shot Thursday morning at an apartment complex owned by The Butler County Housing and Redevelopment Authority. The property has 12 apartments, including the room at 123 Wick Street where Adams was shot and killed, according to the authority's website. The apartments are intended for low-income individuals and families.

Investigators said it appeared that Adams, who was found laying by the front door of the apartment, had two gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at 4:25 p.m. by Butler County Coroner William Young II and Deputy Coroner Larry Barr, though authorities noted that was not when Adams died. Police were called to the Wick Street apartment shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday morning — about 20 minutes after a Jeep crashed into a house on West Penn Street in the city. Police have thus far not said whether the crash was related to the shooting.

Little more was known Thursday night about Adams or the events leading up to his death, as police continued to investigate the shooting. According to online court documents Adams was arrested twice last year — once in March and again in June — and charged with one count of aggravated assault both times. In both cases, which occurred in Perry County, prosecutors ultimately dismissed the charge of aggravated assault against Adams, and he pleaded no contest to a single misdemeanor charge of simple assault.
