Cranberry and Butler townships are both repeating as banner communities in 2018.

This will be Cranberry Township’s sixth and Butler Township’s second designation from Allegheny County and Allegheny League of Municipalities, which run the program. The two townships are the only municipalities outside Allegheny County to earn banners since the program’s inception.

This year, 56 municipalities were designated Banner Communities. The banner program, started in 2012 recognizes municipalities committed to professional development, prudent fiscal management, transparency, accountability and proactive communications, according to the award announcement from Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald’s office.

“The Banner Community Program designation is a public recognition of the efforts that these government officials take on behalf of their residents and businesses each day,” Fitzgerald said.
