Police: Speed a factor in motorcycle crash
A motorcyclist was speeding just before he crashed earlier this month, according to state police.
In a news release Wednesday, state police identified Ryan M. McWherter, 33, of Slippery Rock, as the man who crashed his 2000 Yamaha XVS1100 around 4:09 p.m. Aug. 8 on the 100 block of South Benbrook Road in Center Township.
According to the report, police cited McWherter for speeding following their investigation.
“The incident occurred when (the motorcycle) crested a hill approaching slowed traffic,” police said. “(McWherter) attempted to slow down, but lost control of his motorcycle and fell off.”
According to firefighters on the scene that day, Unionville firefighters performed CPR on McWherter, who regained consciousness about a minute after they began.
McWherter was later flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for suspected serious injuries.
Police noted in the report that McWherter had been wearing a helmet.
