ERIE — Seneca Valley graduates Tyler Herrmann and Anthony Sprentz helped the Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team earn a weekend split with Siena Heights and Thiel.
Herrmann had 16 kills and 16 digs for the Lions (10-10) while Sprentz had 31 assists and four digs.
ERIE — The Slippery Rock University softball team (13-10) lost a doubleheader Saturday at Lock Haven, 6-2 and 8-4.Kailey Myers had three hits, Megan Brown and Lauren Hawley two each for The Rock in the first game. Brown, Becca Roesch and Alexa Guglielmino had two RBI each in the second game.SRU hosts Clarion at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
CLARION — Knoch graduate Jeremy Frazier, a sophomore pitcher at Clarion University, won his home debut this season by defeating Gannon, 3-1, Sunday.Frazier walked eight and struck out only three, but pitched a complete game one-hitter. Clarion is 6-11 on the year, 1-1 in PSAC West play.
WAYNESBURG — Seneca Valley graduates John Brittner and Alex Hajduk played key roles in Penn State Behrend's 8-1 win over Waynesburg in the first game of a baseball doubleheader Sunday.Brittner had a double, single, scored two runs and drove home one. Hajduk got the win on the mound, striking out four and allowing two hits in seven innings.Behrend (7-6) won the second game, 14-5.
MARTINSVILLE, Va. — The NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway has been postponed until Monday because of inclement weather.Rain and light snow started falling Saturday afternoon and continued into the night, creating dangerous driving conditions on nearby roads and leaving little chance of getting the track cleared and dry enough to race Sunday.
NEW YORK — The New York Jets have signed former Washington Redskins wide receiver Terrelle Pryor.Pryor, who turns 29 in June, gives the Jets depth at wide receiver, where they also have Jermaine Kearse, Quincy Enunwa, Robby Anderson, newly signed Andre Roberts, and second-year pros Chad Hansen and ArDarius Stewart.The Jets announced the signing Sunday. Terms of the deal, which were agreed to on Thursday night, were not immediately known.
CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns have agreed to a two-year contact with free agent quarterback Drew Stanton.The team announced the pact on Sunday night. The Browns met last week with Stanton while they were in California scouting UCLA’s Josh Rosen and USC’s Sam Darnold — two quarterbacks in the mix to drafted by Cleveland.
