Pioneers claim Region 20 volleyball crown
Karns City graduate Mackenzie Craig was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player as the Butler County Community College women's volleyball team won the NJCAA Region 20 championship Saturday.
The Pioneers (18-5) defeated host Anne Arundel (Md.) Community College, 3-1, in the finals. Scores of the match were 25-17, 15-25, 25-20, 25-17.
Craig had 33 assists in the victory. Emily Magusiak contributed 11 kills and 31 digs, Abby Kopac nine kills and Kaylee Ebbert 28 digs.
Joining Craig on the all-tournament team were Magusiak, Kopac and Ebbert.
The Pioneers will host the NJCAA district l/j tournament Friday and Saturday. BC3 plays Region 10 runner-up Patrick Hebert at 2 p.m. Friday.
Other teams in the tourney are Region 10 champion Sand Hills CC, Region 12 champion Owens CC, Region 12 runner-up Lorain CC and Region 20 runner-up Anne Arundel.CC.
