Rose L. Bishop
Rose L. Bishop, 93, of Orchard Manor, formerly of Slippery Rock, passed away Friday.
Born March 21, 1924, in Argentine, Pa., she was the daughter of Robert and Minnie Wade Wood.
Rose graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1943. She then married John Gardner on Dec. 28, 1943. John passed away in 1984. Rose married Thomas Bishop on Sept. 16, 1990. He passed away in 2000.
Rose was at her happiest with a house full of family hosting family gatherings. She would bake her famous ginger cookies, along with other baked goods.
In later years she was a regular visitor to the Slippery Rock Senior Center.
Rose was an avid writer, writing poetry as a young girl and she carried it along until her late 70s. She wrote poems for each of her grandchildren, as they entered the family.
She always loved animals and passed that love to her children. Rose was a natural caregiver, having taken care of numerous family members throughout her life.
Loved ones left to cherish Rose's memory are her children, William A. Gardner of Burbank, Calif., John D. Gardner of Slippery Rock and Gayle (Cheryl) Braithwaite of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; her stepchildren, Lillian F. Kaber of Portersville, Beau (Linda) Bell of Slippery Rock, Larry (Denise) Hedglin of Grove City; her 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents and husbands, Rose was preceded in death by her son, Gerald Gardner; her siblings, Gladys Wood, John Wood, James Wood, George Wood and C. Robert Wood.
BISHOP — Family of Rose L. Bishop, who died Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Jamison-McKinley Funeral Home, 117 N.
