Two teens charged in assault at juvenile center

ALLEGHENY TWP — Two teenagers were jailed after they allegedly attacked an employee at a juvenile detention facility in northern Butler County.

Taron J. Foster, 19, and Jai Lee, 19, who are detainees at the Western PA Child Care on Route 38 in Allegheny Township, are both charged with felony and misdemeanor assault.

The teens are being held in the Butler County Prison on $30,000 bail each.

State police said they were called to the detention center shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday for a reported assault. Troopers later determined the defendants had attacked a staff member, according to court documents.

The employee told investigators that Foster and Lee “ran at him and began to punch and strike him,” according to a police affidavit, as he tried to get a juvenile back into the youth's room.

Other staff members saw the alleged attack and intervened. The victim suffered no visible injuries, police said.Mid-Atlantic Youth Services owns the secured facility that houses males and females from ages 16 to 21 who have been placed there following court disposition of their juvenile cases.Foster and Lee were each arraigned on a felony charge of aggravated assault, a misdemeanor charge of simple assault and summary charges of harassment and disorderly conduct.The defendants' preliminary hearings were scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at the office of District Judge Lewis Stoughton in Chicora.
