A Slippery Rock man was sentenced to county prison Wednesday, after being charged with stabbing another person in the buttocks in an October assault.

Joshua T. Bennett, 27, was sentenced to 6 to 12 months in Butler County Prison by Judge William Shaffer. He was given time served credit of 259 days, and will be paroled once a parole plan is completed.

His parole will be followed by 12 months of probation.

Bennett was also resentenced on a 2012 DUI case, where he had violated his probation after being resentenced in 2014. Shaffer imposed a 4-year probation sentence on that case.

Bennett pleaded guilty June 4 to misdemeanor simple assault.

The charges stem from an Oct. 12 incident at an apartment in the 600 block of Grove City Road, Mercer Township, where an apparent drug deal went wrong, police said.

Police were called for a disturbance, and found that a fight had taken place over a drug exchange, according to court documents.

Authorities said they later found the 19-year-old victim at a home on East Main Street Extension in Pine Township, Mercer County. The young Grove City man told police that Bennett had stabbed him in the backside.

He was treated by EMS services and was taken to Grove City Medical Center for treatment. His injury was described as minor — a 2-inch cut.

Investigators suspect a kitchen knife was used in the assault, documents said.

Bennett said, “I just want to get back to my life” after spending 9 months behind bars.

“I already have a job lined up within two days of my release,” he said.
