Man hurt in stabbing is suspect in robbery

He's accused of taking phone

A man who was stabbed at the Butler Transit Authority last month is facing felony robbery charges from a theft that allegedly spurred the attack.

Ryan Wilson, 24, of Butler on Tuesday was charged with robbery, conspiracy and theft by unlawful taking after he allegedly stole an iPhone from Hilary Knisely on Sept. 8.

The alleged theft occurred earlier in the day when Knisely was walking on West North Street.

Knisely, 25, reported the theft to city police, telling officers that a man with a blue shirt and blue shorts stole her iPhone 5S from her pocket then fled, according to court documents.

Knisely later that day allegedly stabbed Wilson in the hand at the transit authority terminal on East Cunningham Street.

Knisely was wielding the 2-inch straight-blade knife in one hand and holding the door shut with the other when officers got to the building about 3 p.m.

She eventually dropped the knife at the officers’ command, according to court documents.

Police later found Wilson walking down the street, bleeding from his hand.

He was identified as matching the description of the suspect from the previous incident. He was treated at the scene and released.

Witnesses said Knisely allegedly told Wilson “give me my phone or I’m gonna stab you,” according to a police affidavit.

Wilson later admitted to police that he was at the scene of the theft, but claimed the phone was stolen by a man named “Clay,” according to documents. The phone is valued at $400.

Wilson on Tuesday was placed in Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.

Wilson on Sept. 9 was charged with access device fraud after he allegedly used a West Penn Street woman’s debit card without her permission Sept. 2 and withdrew $158 from the bank account. He also made a $19 purchase with the card at a convenience store on West Jefferson Street.

He also was charged with felony retail theft for an unrelated incident Sept. 9.
