Suspected drugged driver charged

An alleged drugged driver was caught in Butler with suspected methamphetamine and ingredients used to make the drug, according to authorities.

A trooper found Sabrina V. Brandon, 48, of East Butler, about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday in the driver's seat of a sport utility vehicle with the ignition on at the Dunkin' Donuts parking lot on North Main Street, according to state police.

Brandon told police that she had driven from Chicora and had taken several prescription drugs, charging documents said. She was arrested after failing field sobriety tests, police said, adding that she refused to submit to a blood test.

Charging documents reveal an inventory search of her vehicle turned up suspected meth, unused syringes and a straw. Police said they also found household lye and camp fuel — both ingredients commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Brandon on a felony charge of possessing phenylpropanolamine, or a precursor substance with intent to unlawfully manufacture a controlled substance.

Additionally, she was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

She remains in Butler County Prison on $30,000. Her preliminary hearing was not immediately scheduled. Online court records did not list an attorney.
