Woman arrested after incident in Cranberry hotel restroom

Sarah Kyle

CRANBERRY TWP — A Maryland woman, who allegedly told police she was in the mid-Atlantic state when found on a township hotel restroom floor, was arraigned Friday on charges she assaulted two police officers while resisting arrest.

Sarah Marie Kyle, 25, of Mount Savage, Md., faces felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor resisting arrest and summary public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and harassment charges. She was arraigned by District Judge David Kovach.

Police said they were dispatched to Best Western on Cranberry Springs Drive just after 5 a.m. Friday where they found a half-naked Kyle on the floor of the public restroom.

According to officer Robin Mammarelli’s affidavit, Kyle said she was fine and believed she was at the Cumberland Best Western, her place of employment.

While trying to remove Kyle, officer Mark Shields’ hand was caught in the bathroom stall door, police said. “Kyle immediately began kicking, pushing, striking and punching officers repeatedly,” said Mammarelli as officers continued their attempt to remove her. According to the report, Kyle kneed Shields in the groin before an officer closed one handcuff on her wrist. She continued to scream when handcuffed and, police said, kicked Mammarelli in the torso before being transported to the police department.

Court records do not indicate if Kyle is represented by an attorney. She remains in Butler County Prison in lieu of $30,000 bail.
