Man sent to prison for subway assaultA man convicted of beating a black man and pushing him onto subway tracks in Pittsburgh almost a year ago has been sentenced to three to six years in prison.Ryan Kyle, 22, was sentenced Wednesday in Allegheny County. He pleaded guilty in February to aggravated assault, ethnic intimidation and robbery conspiracy. An attempted murder charge was dropped.Authorities said Kevin Lockett was tossed off the Wood Street station platform and beaten following a May 30 Kenny Chesney concert at Heinz Field. Four other men were sentenced to probation.

Medical episode blamed in crashAuthorities say a woman suffered a medical episode while behind the wheel of a vehicle and hit three pedestrians before striking a utility pole in Pittsburgh.Police spokesman Emily Schaffer says the crash happened just after 2 p.m. Tuesday in the city's Lawrenceville neighborhood. Schaffer says the woman in her 20s had an unspecified medical episode.

Woman sentenced in testing schemeA Chinese woman who admitted to conspiring to have other women take college admissions examinations so she could attend Virginia Tech has been sentenced to six months of home detention.The sentence was handed down against Yue Zou, 22, on Tuesday in Pittsburgh federal court. She pleaded guilty in October to participating in a conspiracy that had people in China make phony passports for two women who took tests while pretending to be Zou.
