[naviga:h3]Chapla, Fochtman get special honor[/naviga:h3]
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University football seniors Jake Chapla and Braden Fochtman have been named to the National Football Foundation’s Hampshire Honor Society for excellence in the classroom.
The football student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2, be a starter or significant contributor and must have completed his final season of collegiate football last fall.
Chapla, SRU’s place-kicker and punter, will graduate in May with an accounting degree and a minor in leadership. He owned a cumulative 3.343 GPA. His 390 career points are most in SRU history.
Fochtman, a running back, will graduate in May with a degree in health and physical education. He has a 3.661 GPA. He rushed for 540 yards in his career and made 17 special teams tackles.
SRU football has had 14 members of the Hampshire Honor Society over the last four years.

ERIE — Three former Butler County athletes, now competing at Penn State Behrend, have been inducted to Chi Alpha Sigma — the National Collegiate Student-Athlete Honor Society which recognizes academic performance, leadership and character.
The three are Butler graduate Emily Archer (volleyball), Seven Fields resident and North Catholic graduate Alayna Derzak (softball) and Knoch graduate Jenna Shelton (cross country).
