BUTLER TWP — Township officials say a section of Delwood Road has been closed indefinitely after Wednesday night's rainfall heavily damaged a culvert along the road.

The road has been closed to all traffic from East Brady Street to Zenith Drive, the township said in a news release Friday.

Commissioner Dave Zarnick said the township had erected jersey barriers around the affected area, which was washed out during the severe thunderstorms Wednesday night, and township engineers were expected to begin investigating the problem. There was no immediate timetable for the engineers' review of the damage or how long repairs might take.

Zarnick also said a portion of Litman Road behind the South Butler Firehall was an area of concern, because of a gully that flows beneath the road in that area. Gateway Engineering also was expected to begin looking at that area on Friday, but Zarnick said the road was not being closed as of Friday.

Zarnick also said he and Fire Marshal Larry Christy would be inspecting Lyndora, as the township prepares to organize a cleanup day Zarnick said could be staged sometime this week.
