Parking board votes to dissolve
Butler’s parking authority voted Monday night 3-0 to dissolve as part of the city’s process to turn over its management responsibilities to a parking manager.
The authority last week had a motion to dissolve, but split the vote 2-2. Mayor Tom Donaldson replaced the two board members who voted against the move.
Donaldson said he appointed William Stoughton and Heather Blair to the authority before the meeting Monday night. Blair made the motion to authorize the authority to sign a certificate of termination.
Chairman Jim Chiprean abstained from the vote.
The city has said Chiprean may become the new parking manager.
Board member Jerry Johnston also voted for the motion, while John Mossman did not attend the meeting.
City council last week voted to disband the authority, which manages the majority of parking lots and the tier garage in Butler.
City council said it plans to replace the board with a part-time parking manager who will oversee all parking and will be better suited to handle the day-to-day operations.
The disbanding will be effective Jan. 1, when the city will take over all assets of the authority.
The city’s new parking manager position is still being developed.
