Picnic will kick off fundraising for memorial

The fifth annual First Responders' Night and Autumn Picnic will serve as the fundraising kickoff for a project to build a First Responders Pavilion and install a Line of Duty Memorial stone in Alameda Park.

All law enforcement, firefighters and EMS personnel and their families are invited to the event, which will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Odd Fellows Pavilion in Alameda Park.

Butler AM Rotary is heading up the collection of donations and sponsorships for the pavilion and memorial stone.

The pavilion will seat 150, and first responders will be able to use it free of charge.

The cost for both the pavilion and stone is about $100,000.

A method to accept donations from residents will be announced in the near future.

County Commissioner Kevin Boozel, who is heading up the project committee, said all donations over and above the amount needed to complete the pavilion and stone will go toward retention, recruitment and training for fire, law enforcement and EMS organizations in Butler County.
