Slippery Rock advances to D10 title game with win
ERIE — The Slippery Rock High baseball team sharpened its bats and scattered the field Tuesday.
The Rockets took advantage of four days off — brought on by rain that led to unplayable field conditions — by practicing hard at the plate, and came away with a 7-4 win over Warren in a District 10 4A semifinal at Ainsworth Field.
“It's been a lot of batting practice and a lot of hitting, and we worked on our approach at the plate,” said Slippery Rock coach Fred Pryor. “That's one thing about this group of kids; they want to work.”
The Rockets (19-2) broke open the game in the third inning. They held a 2-1 lead when Danny Williams and Ricky Mineo hit consecutive singles to start the bottom of the frame.
That's when Zach Van Dyke, who finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, changed the game. Van Dyke hit a rope into the deep recesses of right field, making it to second and sending home Williams.
