SRU gets split to end year
SLIPPERY ROCK — A rough year came to an end Sunday for the Slippery Rock University baseball team.
The Rock (15-28, 5-21) concluded its 2019 season with a doubleheader split against California (Pa.). The Vulcans (35-13, 19-9) won the first game, 9-8 in eight innings, before The Rock claimed the nightcap, 4-2.
Jon Kozarian and Frankie Jezioro had hits in both games for SRU. Kozarian homered and Jezioro had his team-leading 12th stolen base of the year.
Joe Campagna and Colin Cain also homered Sunday for SRU. Campagna led the team with 10 homers on the campaign.
Tanner Stanz worked a complete game in the SRU win, allowing two unearned runs on four hits.
SRU was swept in a doubleheader Saturday at California, losing 8-2 and 6-1.
Women’s Tennis
SRU dropped the PSAC championship match to Mercyhurst, 4-1. The Rock (16-8) is still one of the favorites to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA playoffs in the Atlantic Region.
Lacey Cohen and Olivia Warner won at No. 2 doubles for SRU.
