New Butler Memorial Hospital entrance opens
Butler Memorial Hospital's new entrance is open to the public.
Hospital administrators and staff members opened the drive this morning from Route 68/East Jefferson Street to the parking lot next to the helicopter pad by riding in two Austin Bantam cars and an Austin Bantam Jeep, which were designed and developed in Butler.
Butler Health System President and CEO Ken DeFurio said while the hospital prides itself in heart bypass surgery, "that's a bypass," pointing to the drive.
Carol Bowman, a recently retired hospital employee with five other family members working for the health system, helped DeFurio cut the ribbon opening the road.
State Department of Transportation workers also switched the stop light at the drive's intersection with Route 68 from flashing to fully functioning stop light.
