Mary E. Geist

Mary E. Geist, 93, of Butler passed away on Saturday at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.

She was born Sept. 10, 1925, in Butler County, and was a daughter of the late Walter Emory Bickel and the late Zella Rose Butler Bickel.

Mrs. Geist was a homemaker and she raised five children. She was from a sibling group of 16.

Mrs. Geist was a member of the Butler Church of the Nazarene.

She loved gardening and canning.

She is survived by her caregiver and sister, Lois Watterson; two sons, Jude (Mary) J. Geist of Emporia, Va., and Ezra J. (Sherri) Geist of Arkport, N.Y.; three daughters, Faith E. Geist of Titusville, Hope D. Tomajko of Baltimore, Md., and Lydia C. DeBiase of Morton, Pa.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers; and eight sisters.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Geist, whom she married on Nov. 3, 1962, and who passed away on Oct. 10, 2018; three brothers; and two sisters.

GEIST — Friends of Mary E. Geist, who died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Butler Church of the Nazarene, 4410 Oakdale Road, Butler.Funeral services will be held immediately following at 11 a.m. with associate pastor Millie Martsolf officiating.Burial will take place in the McVille Union Cemetery in Freeport.Arrangements were entrusted to Thompson-Miller Funeral Home of Butler.Memorial donations are suggested to the Butler Church of the Nazarene, 4410 Oakdale Road, Butler, PA 16001.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
